2 cents from hunter

You know you may order delivery a little too often when the following happens:

The door bell rings. Mommy answers door to except her package from FedEx. Mommy closes door to see a running child taking the corner at 90 mph to say, "I want pizza!"

Guess I need to start turning the oven on a little more, or have more people come over that AREN'T delivery. :) Poor delivery food eating baby. I SWEAR I COOK A TON!!! (we just LOVE our pizza....)

Sincerely,
the pizza lovin, get can't enough of its deep dish huggin, family.... :)

The Pumpkin Pickers...

Poor Hunter. We have been dealing with seperation anxiety for 2 years now. It's EVENTUALLY getting better but its a day by day process.

We FINALLY figured out that if we give him juice when we get there.... (uh a very special treat in this house...usually the boy gets V8 splash which we mix with H20 to decrease the sugar...yes, yes, you can feel sorry for him now....he is SOOOOO deprived.... :) ) then it helps take his mind off of us leaving and him sitting at the table like a big boy drinking his juice box.

I'm just gonna start by saying, I HAVE NO IDEA WHERE IN THE WORLD OUR CHILD GOT THIS FROM.

Each morning we ease him into school by discussing what we are going to do this morning. "Hunter, we have to get dressed so we can go to school. Hunter is going to school and mommy/daddy are going to work and we will pick you up later." To this he repeats, "Hunter school, mommy/daddy work."  (talking about it really REALLY helps.)

One morning, daddy comes to give hunter his "nose kiss hug" before leaving...don't think we can leave without it...this boy would have a BANSHY FIT. (and yes i know any parent would die if they didn't get their love before they left for the day but we have a VERY SPECIFIC nose kiss hug process.....its kinda like the very important secret hand shake that you gotta get when they get older....its detrimental to the system here folks.....i mean come on....its the NOSE KISS HUG.

So daddy gets up to leave and hunter waves bye and says, "See you later daddy! I see you laaaater!! You go to work and picka ur pumpkins!!!!!" .......saaaaaay whaaaaaat???

Daddy and I look at each other and laugh "Did he REALLY just say that?!" Where did that come from?! I mean, its not even fall!!!! We laugh and ask him again, "What is daddy going to do?" ...to this we get a "duh" expression with the answer, "Daddy going to work to picka uh pumpkins!...Mommy picka uh pumpkins, Daddy picka uh pumpkins!".............good to know kid...................apparently we are pumpkin pickers.

And so this has carried on for awhile and even this morning I set his juice box down at his chosen seat, gave him the stinson family secret handshake of the "nose kiss hug" system and got up to leave.. Hunter waves bye and says "Bye momma!!! Go picka ur pumpkins!!!"

Yes baby,....Momma gonna go picka her pumpkins. :)

2 cents from hunter

First of all, are we REALLY that old?! The answer is NO. NO WE ARE NOT. We are still the YOUNG generation right?........Right?? ...................................RIGHT?

This all started one day when hunter wanted to watch a movie. He pulled my hand towards the direction of the console and says "show me momma, show me"...which means " I want to show you what movie I want to watch" :)

Now daddy and I being the hip, chic, ontop of it parental units that we are.......................... still have all of our VHS movies and VHS player from......um....."the days".

So I open the first console door and show him some dvd's. He then wants the other console door open which holds the holiday dvds and.......vhs tapes.

He picks up a dvd, looks it over, and goes "eh, no, not that one". He then reaches back and grabs a vhs. His eyes open and he stares in shock for a bit then looks up at me with eyes of bewilderment and says "Momma, dats toooo big! It no work! fro it away!"

As if that weren't bad enough he then gets up, shaking his head and walks away to the main dvd console muttering, "too big, too big, dats toooo big"

It maybe time to toss the vhs tapes.

Oh Sunday, Sunday

I have decided to rename you Sunday. You are now going to be "Happy do everything I need to do for Monday, that I didn't do on Saturday, but still gonna procrastinate and say I'm gonna just get up earlier Monday, so I have one more day of doing everything except what I should be doing and don't wanna do, day."

See. Much better.

Weekends in our house are pretty great. Most times a homemade breakfast in our pj's, some fresh squeezed orange juice here n there, (who am i kidding, this stuff makes a mess.... its EVERYWHERE but i love it.) Cartoons are playing, toys are flying through the air as we play with hunter in the floor and then after the morning magic is gone, we go grocery shopping for the week and for our family dinner.

We don't get a ton of time together as we are both working parents so we try to do a big family meal every weekend. Now don't get me wrong. We eat dinner as a family everynight but our weekend family dinner is much more, lets say, done up right.

Our weekend family dinner is when we find a recipe that really needs some time to prepare. For example, one weekend we had peppercorn crusted steaks with a gorganzola cream sauce, sauteed spinach, and topped with a few buttermilk and corn meal crusted fried onions. ( yuuuuum) plus dessert! (If this doesn't sound good to you even a little bit then I am afraid you hate food aaaand we can no longer be friends. :)  )

We cook it as a family (well hunter loves stirring empty tupperware). Its totally old school with the cooking apron and all. No tv or phones just us, music, and a glass of wine. We eat to oldies music playing, candles lit, and with our linen napkins. (linen napkins because they are more environmentally friendly, not because they are all fancy.)

I even made fresh butter this week for it!! (don't make that look! It's SO SO easy!!) Literally, you put fresh cream (or whipping cream from the store) into a mixer and after awhile the cream seperates into milk and buttermilk!!! I'm even going to save the buttermilk to make fresh buttermilk pancakes in the morning! (my sister in law told me about this and I am telling you, you will never eat store bought butter again. Mmmmmm Mmmmm)

(We have milk, eggs, cheese, meat, etc delivered from an organic dairy farm here. Just found it a few weeks ago! If you know of a dairy in your area, I highly recommend trying the milk and dairy products! Its uncanny how yummy it tastes! If your into whole milk you can even scrape fresh cream right off the top of the milk.)

I put the cream in a kitchenaide mixer, turned it on, walked away, and then poof! it looks like I put butter in milk! The solids have seperated from the cream into butter and buttermilk now. See!!! SO EASY.

I poured the buttermilk back into the cream container for pancakes and washed the butter with ice cold water to get all the buttermilk off so it stays fresh longer. We always used to buy the fresh churned butter from the same dairy but now I know how to make it!! We don't eat alot of butter but when we do nothing beats this stuff. I'm ordering more cream on this next weeks' delivery to get some in the freezer ready to go.

After dinner, with our bellies swollen, we clean up all the dishes, pick up the kitchen, rest, play, and then we sit down for dessert. Recently, I made a honey chocolate cake.(our new favorite)  The recipe calls it a honey "bee" cake. So OF COURSE bees must be made. :)

The bees are marzipan, almond flakes, and I used some of the honey chocolate sticky sauce to draw on the stripes and eyes.

Hunter playing on a few occasions before dessert...

Hunter had a blast helping make and eat the bees. Plus the house smells AMAAAAZING with this thing in the oven. I even got to get a springform pan from my kitchen "want" list to make it! (ya know, the "I really want it now but don't really need it yet, put it on a list so I don't forget it", want list.)  I love the yellow because it makes it feel vintage.

I'm pretty sure hunter liked the cake...or should I say the chocolatey, moist, honey tasting, drop of heaven! Here is his first bite...

Aaaaand the next bite.

I'm sold. I'll be making this one again.

Here's hoping your weekends are as fattening as ours!! (Now you know why we are such healthy eaters during the week....we are saving up for our family dinner....Stinson style.)

2 cents from hunter

Hunter is potty trained!!! .............nearly! :)

This boy has been O so stubborn on this potty training thing. Stubborn and maybe a lil bit lazy because that means he has to stop what he is doing and GO. TO. THE. POTTY!

Well, we are finally in our big boy undies and using the proper facilities. On one of his...shall we say...excursions, he was sitting there like a big boy with mommy and daddy right outside the door (a boy likes his privacy)....next thing we know we hear this tiny lil voice yelling "I fall in! I fall in! Momma, Daddy, hhheeeeellllp me!

Daddy and I barrel in the door, practically getting stuck in the door frame, and see our little boy, sunk down in the potty, feet up with pants around the ankles, bottom, waist, and stomach in the toilet........... he then goes on to say, realizing we are there to help him so he is no longer concerned, "I touch the water!"......................eeeeeeeeeewwwwww.

Needless to say it was difficult pulling him out while we were trying not to fall to the ground with laughter. (and yes, we have the mini seat that goes on top of the big seat for him to sit on. We even have a potty training chair for him. he doesn't like any of them except the true blue toilet.. i told you,....he's stubborn....don't know where he got that from.)

Now to top it off, mommy and daddy now receive encouragement everytime we are on one of our....eeerrr....excursions. Hunter patiently is outside the door to clap and cheer "You did it! You did it! You really really did it! I so PROUD of you!!"

hhmmmm kids...
